Mary is the founder and owner of K9 Country Village since its inception as Nip It In the Bud in 2000. Mary has loved animals her entire life and has found a way to enjoy and share her passion for animals with others through not only her business but such volunteer work as Reading with the Dogs at the library and Pet Therapy at local retirement facilities as well as Rehab and Children's Hospitals. Mary also had the opportunity to raise a dog named Drew for the Southeastern Guide Dogs -- an experience she will always be grateful for--and when Drew was later retired, she eagerly accepted him back into her home where he currently resides as the resident "top dog". In 1996, Mary took a position as a surgery technician at South Rhea Animal Hospital where she gained experience in emergency care, surgery, preventative medicine, and animal pediatrics. In 1998, Mary attended The National Canine School of Dog Trainers in Columbus, Ohio, where she received her Certified Dog Trainer credentials---and 2 years later officially started "NIP IT IN THE BUD". In 2004, Mary decided to leave South Rhea Animal Hospital in order to focus all of her time on her rapidly growing training and cage-free boarding facility. Now, branching out to include grooming, retail and "orphans" the name change seems natural---so Nip It has now become K9 COUNTRY VILLAGE! Mary’s household currently includes Drew, a yellow lab, a Great Dane, named Roadway, several rescue dogs, and the best mutt ever, Rascal.

History of K9 Country Village
K9 Country Village began as Nip It in the Bud--a small dog training business in Mary Zopfi’s Dayton home back in 1998. It wasn't long before her clients requested Mary add dog boarding since they were so comfortable with the home environment that "Fido" enjoyed while he was in training. This was the beginning of the cage-free concept--a stress-free, home-like alternative. In 2002, Mary bought an 40 acre Dayton farm to move their home and expanding cage-free boarding business to. Mary utilized a 1500 sq ft. building adjacent to the house for the increasing number of dog boarders--which connects to the main house with the fenced yard. This allows the dogs to hang out in the "dog house" or hang out in the kitchen or office with the staff--and then there is always the option of chilling out on the couch in the living room, or Mary's bed! Owners have the option of letting their dogs be completly "cage-free" (lounging on the couches or racecar beds...) or if they prefer, a crate/kennel of their own to cuddle in. Dogs romp and play in various groups---carefully selected for the dogs personality and temperment.
Finally, in the fall of 2008, Mary felt the need to expand again --adding retail, grooming. A new dog building was designed and built during the fall and winter of 2008 with doors opening in January of 2009. At this time, the name of the business was changed from Nip It In the Bud to K9 Country Village, to express the expanding services offered and the country village atmosphere of the facility. So--give us a call and schedule a visit--bring your K9 child and come see the difference--we would love to have you!
